Tora’s Book Nook Review: Across A Darkling Sea by K. Ferrin

This is another mystical, magical story, but in an entirely different vein. Evelyn lives in the swamp country known as Brielle, which doesn’t have any magic and believes all magic is evil. But Evelyn is fascinated with magic and buys a magic seed at the market. She is suddenly arrested and discovers she’s a changeling and it’s been five years since she purchased and planted the seed. But she doesn’t remember any of it. Each night when she goes to sleep, she forgets everything that happened the day before. Her last memories are of planting the seed. Her mother and the people of her village try to kill her to bring back the real Evelyn and she escapes with one goal in mind: find the warlock who created her and get him to uncreate her and bring back the real Evelyn.

I found the idea of a changeling who couldn’t die and couldn’t remember what happened to her fascinating. The perils she faces as she journeys to the warlock island are exciting and interesting. Secrets that more is going on in the world, and she just might play a part in it, are slowly uncovered drawing you deeper into the story. I really enjoyed reading this story and am looking forward to the next in the series. (Available on Amazon for $0.99 or free as a subscriber to her newsletter.)
