Tora’s Book Nook Review: Night’s Gift by Carol E. Leever & Camilla Orchlan

Book Title: Night’s Gift

Author: Carol E. Leever & Camilla Orchlan

Series: Of Cats and Dragons (Book 1 of 5)

Rating: 4*

I don’t usually read middle-grade or young adult fantasy.
But there are times when I make an exception and I’m glad I did for this story.
Even though the main characters Omen and Templar are supposed to be
adolescents, I found them to be much more mature. I could forget this was a
story about children because it was well-written and engaging.

Omen is visiting the city of Hex and escapes his bodyguards.
A pickpocket steals his bracelet which controls his psionic powers which can be
quite destructive and with the help of the Hex prince, Templar, they chase him
down. To get the bracelet back, they have to enter the Night Games, a game to
the death, and in the process free a talking kitten.

The kitten, Tormy, is a hoot! I liked the banter between
Omen, Templar, and Tormy. There is danger, adventure, and heart in this story. There
are currently five books in the series. This is one I’ll be reading the whole
series.
