Tora’s Book Nook Review: The Beast of London

The Beast of London by L.D. Goffigan

Book Review: The Beast of London

Author: L.D. Goffigan

Series: Mina Murray Series

Rating: 4*

This is an imaginative retelling of the original vampire story set in London, 1890. Mina Murray has settled in London, teaching underprivileged students while still longing for her adventurous life she once had with her father. There is a mystery about her father’s death in Transylvania she doesn’t want to uncover and, in an effort, to forget, she becomes the fiancé of an upper-class solicitor. Things unravel when her fiancé is abducted and her old boyfriend, Abraham Van Helsing, turns back up in her life. Mina and Abraham race to Transylvania to save Jonathan from the vampires who stole him. During the journey, secrets come to light regarding Mina’s mother and her birth. Just exactly who is Mina Murray?

The story was well-written and kept me interested. There was mystery and enough supernatural creatures to keep me interested. The author had some new twists on an old story that made it fresh. This was book 1 in a series of 3. I would continue to read the series.
