A Simple Practice to Return to Yourself

A breath. A pause. A simple practice to return home to yourself. This simple spiritual practice brings you out of your head, into your body, and reconnected to your Feminine Divine Presence.

Why Presence Matters (and Why It’s So Hard)

How often have you heard or been told to be present, do a simple grounding practice, or live in the now moment as a way to be more spiritual?

It sounds great to focus on just what’s happening and not worry about the future or run that awful scenario and what you should have said or done a thousand times in your head.

But how do you get out of your head?

Meditation is one way, but you can’t do that all day. You have a life to live. Bills to pay. Kids to take care of.

A Simple Grounding Practice You Can Use Anytime

An easy embodiment practice and grounding technique to be fully present is to pause and take time to savor the moment. To explore it, relish it, and enjoy it. When we pause and are present, we naturally move out of our heads and into our bodies. This is how we return to ourselves, ground, and center.

I invite you to try this easy embodiment exercise to be present in the moment. It only takes a few minutes, and once you become proficient, you can do it in just a few breaths. This practice is helpful when you feel ungrounded and scattered, or when you need to make a decision, or moving into a new segment of your day.

Embodiment Exercise: How to Be Present

This grounding practice helps you quiet your mind, reconnect with your breath, and come back into your body.

Pause whatever you’re doing and place your hands, palm down, over the center of your chest—your high heart—and gently close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, feeling your hands rise as your lungs expand. As you exhale, pay attention to your hands dropping. Continue breathing, allowing each breath to grow deeper and longer, focusing only on your breath and the sensation of your hands rising and falling.

You may become aware of other parts of your body attuning to and becoming resonant with your breath. Your body may feel just a bit heavier as you become more grounded through this simple embodiment practice because you’re now IN your body, not in your head. Thoughts may slow as you drop more out of your head and become more present in your body.

When you feel calm, serene, and at ease, you’ve tapped into and aligned with your Feminine Divine Presence—your Soul.

Before you open your eyes, and before you resume your activity, send love and gratitude to your body and the essence of your Self.

When you open your eyes, you may sense your perceptions have shifted slightly—and they have! This is the moment when many people feel they’ve truly returned to themselves. You are now embodied, more in tune with your intuition’s whispered messages of guidance from your Inner Being, your Feminine Divine Presence. These will flow through your body and into your awareness.

How This Practice Helps You Connect With Your Intuition

When you use this grounding practice, it becomes easier to connect with your intuition and your Feminine Divine Presence. Besides doing this to ground yourself in the moment, this practice is helpful to do before making a decision about what to do next or project to work on. Once you’re in your body, follow the promptings from your intuition.

If you know your Human Design Authority, follow it as a way to receive those whispers of guidance from your Divine Feminine Presence.

For those with Sacral Authority, this will show up as an ah-huh (yes) or uh-uh (no) feeling in their gut. Splenic Authority will have a sense of rightness or wrongness, while those with Emotional Authority experience this as how they feel about it. Does it feel good or not? Those with Mental or Ego Authority need to talk it out—or write it out—to discover their intuitive answer.

Doing this grounding practice helps me to move through my day more grounded and connected. I’m able to make better decisions based on what is right for me, not what my mind “thinks” I should do. I invite you to experiment with this simple spiritual practice over the next few days, especially when your mind in whirling.

Are you going to try this embodiment practice?

After trying this embodiment practice, pay attention to body and energy system. What shifted in your body, breath, or energy after doing the grounding practice? What were the sensations or emotions did you feel? Did you see/sense any images? What were they? Did you receive any insights or guidance?

To use this practice to expand your intuition, after you’ve grounded, pause and place a hand on your heart. What whispered guidance is your Feminine Divine Presence offering you? I invite you to allow whatever arises to come through without judgment or censoring it.

What helps you feel grounded? Besides this exercise, what three practices, sensations, or environments help you reach a calm, grounded state? How can you weave at least one of them into your daily life?

Are you using your Human Design authority when making decisions? What has been your experience when you do versus when you don’t? If you haven’t yet, I invite you to follow your authority over the next week when faced with a decision. What were the results of this experiment?
